Server needs to be updated, but doesnt work.

Hello, i started my SRCDS gmod server today, and it told me i need to update it…
Ok, started Hldsupdatetool with the common parameters (-command update -game garrysmod -dir .) but i hang on connecting to content server.
ok… What now? Is a new update out there, or is it a bug?

You have to use steamcmd.

As said previously, Steampipe has replaces the original HLDS update tool. You have to use SteamCMD. hlds update tool is just obsolete.

Edit: Ah thanks, it worked… i had the steamcmd.exe in old hlds folder

Uhh, sorry for double post… but it installs that useless Gmod BETA.
I mean, i need the old gmod server files! SteamCMD is annoying… everytime i update it, it delete config files

I too need an answer for this. Even with the link provided I have no idea.

Move your Garry’s Mod folder UP one directory.

From this:

To this:

Go grab SteamCMD. Extract it anywhere you want.

Create a .txt file called “gmod.txt” inside the SteamCMD folder and put this content into it:
(Change the force_install_dir to your servers’ new directory)

@ShutdownOnFailedCommand 1 //set to 0 if updating multiple servers at once
@NoPromptForPassword 1
login anonymous
force_install_dir C:\blablabla\gmodserver\garrysmod
app_update 4020 validate

And then open up SteamCMD and let it update itself. When it’s done, simply type this into the CMD window: runscript gmod.txt

And violla! Now your server will update to the latest version.
