Ok so I finally got a server to work! I can open it and play on it. Unfortunately, my friends cannot join it. For them it says the server is not responding and that it isn’t on the main server list. All of my ports are forwarded correctly. Please help me because I have been working on this forever! However, it comes up on the LAN tab in the server thing for me.
Same With Me i have the same Problem!
- sv_lan 0
- changelevel <map>
And that works?

That didn’t do anything. My server is still only on the LAN list and no one can join it!!!
Please someone help me!
help us!!! it worked yeasterday for 2 minutes then it shut off now its not working!
Check to make sure your ports are opened correctly, also make sure your giving your friends the right ip to connect with a lot of people give out their LAN ip instead of their WAN address.
If you do not know your WAN address use a simple site like http://ipchicken.com to find it, have your friends use that ip if they have not already.
Make sure your ports are forwarded correctly, sometimes its a small thing you forget to do such as setting a static ip lease your computer or forgetting to enable the port forward rule.
If your connecting with your local ip (192.168.x.x.) your friends will not be able to join through steam friends as it will try connecting them to your local address instead. if your router supports NAT loop back start joining with your internet ip as well.
That’s all I can think would be the problem, as someone stated earlier, make sure sv_lan is set to 0 in your server.cfg as well.
Hopefully some of that helps.
thanks! lol i was giving my lan lol but when i join it kicks me in 30 sec
Ok I’m gonna feel dumb. When you say “If your connecting with your local ip (192.168.x.x.) your friends will not be able to join through steam friends as it will try connecting them to your local address instead. if your router supports NAT loop back start joining with your internet ip as well.”
And things like “also make sure your giving your friends the right ip to connect with a lot of people give out their LAN ip instead of their WAN address.” What do you mean
Like what do you mean “The right ip to connect with”?
You have two IP adresses, one is local, and the other is used internally by computers on your network, and the other is your external adresses, that other computers use.
but wait… SRCDS gives out my local IP… so that means that ppl cant connect to my server via steam server listing
As stated earlier go to http://ipchicken.com and copy the ip adress (the one that looks like xx.xx.xx.xx in the middle of the screen) and give it to a friend. your friend now has to put “connect <your ip>” in your console.
dude i know that but… when you start srcds it lists the server with your LAN ip
If your behind a router or gateway that’s normal to see your local ip show up when the server starts, as long as the ports are open and you give them your WAN ip they should be able to connect fine.
ok but what i really dont get is why does it always time me out when i join my server but not my friends
So They just put that in their dev console at the main menu and then they’ll connect?
But how do I set up my server with that ip?
I GOT IT TO WORK! But it says ive reachedd npc limit wqhenever i spawn an npc.
Just run sbox_maxnpcs <number>, if you want the change to be permanent just add that to your server.cfg (example sbox_maxnpcs 5).
There are many other things you can change most are just sbox_ followed by what your trying to set such as sbox_balloons or sbox_maxwire_lights.
If you need a basic server.cfg here is one the GMod wiki provides.
If you want to know all the possible cvars you can mess with just enter cvarlist into console.
This is my problem. When i run my server_info.bat,(the one that loads crap to my server (I believe) it says
"Could not exec server.cfg
Just before executing I get this error -
And then -
What’s the deal? Can someone help?
Here is my server.cfg -
BTW: I tried server.cfg originally and it was a text doc(didn’t exec in the update) so I changed it to a cfg file by copying another from the folder and changing it’s name to server and put all the server crap in it and saving. It doesn’t work. Anything I put in the folder isn’t read by my server.
Make sure your server.cfg is in the correct folder (the cfg folder), double check to make sure you did not accidentally save it as a text file.
Make sure your cfg folder is readable (should not be a problem most of the time, but you never know).
I googled around and found this, it may fix the “The procedure entry point ?AddProfileForThread@CVProfManager@@QAEPAVCVProfil eThreadEntry@@PAVCVProfile@@I@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0_s.dll” problem
If your still having trouble maybe I could help out remotely with Team Viewer. If you don’t have team viewer installed they have a Quick Support version as well.
Try the things above first, if your not having any luck you may pm me or add me on steam and ill try to help.
