Stupid question about changing the decal of a model

I downloaded some sexy columns for a bank I’m making.

However, upon testing them in game, I discovered they were “made” of some kinda cheap plastic crap.

Would I have to edit the model or the .vmt?

Because if it’s the model, I’m screwed, but the .vmt is a piece of piss.

“$surfaceprop” “name of material entry from surfaceproperties.txt” in your vmt.

Example:

“$surfaceprop” “metal”

This overrides the material set in the qc.

Is there a way I can easily find the material for it?

It’s a bitch searching through my thousands of textures for a specific one.
