The physics behind GMod's/The Source Engine's ropes?

I tried search, which didn’t work.

What I’m curious about is the physics behind the ropes in GMod/the Source engine. What are the equations/algorithms that result in a stable rope?

For those that are about to link me to Google or Wikipedia for rope physics, I’m just going to tell you that I tried, and what I’ve found can’t be applied to what I’m trying to do.
