What is ToxSin?

ToxSin is a remake of my old zombie gamemode, ReDead. It is best described as a cross between L4D, Killing Floor and STALKER.

What makes it so special?

Here’s a list of cool features:

-Fun gameplay! It can be hard as nails at times, but that is a big part of the fun.
-Intelligent zombie SNPCs that hunt you down and beat the shit out of you.
-A bunch of cool weapons with their own custom base weapon which implements a custom bullet shell effect, scoping, ironsights, and more.
-Melee weapons, including a hammer which can be used to build barricades using wood you find.
-An inventory system that is very modular and moddable.
-3 human classes and 3 zombie classes, each with their own perks.
-Fancy effects! Motion blur, postprocessing, realistic drunkness, blood spatter on your HUD, and more!
-Lots of gore! Blow the torso off of a zombie with a winchester, commit genocides with C4 explosives, instagib individual zombies with the Experimental Rifle and blast the heads off of zombies with pretty much any gun!
-Battle infection, radiation and bleeding. Each affects you differently.
-Replayability! Never play the same match twice! The antidote spawns randomly around the map, and the evacuation helicopter has multiple landing zones.
-Sperg Over Your Stats! At the end of the round awards are handed out to players who have accomplished great and not-so-great things! If you’re one of those fellows who hides in a corner while his teammates do all the work then you will get publicly humiliated. If you are a master of headshots then your deeds will not go unnoticed!
-ConVars that give the server owner complete control over most gameplay aspects.
-Quite moddable, i’ve included a bunch of shit in moddable.lua for people to play around with.
-A custom entity loading system for maps. Do you have a map that doesn’t have spawn points for ToxSin? You can easily configure the map ingame with hardly any hassle.

What maps are fun to play on?

Zombocity: The official map of ReDead and ToxSin. Most of the map was done by Omni, with a few building contributions by me and other community members.

Deadvilla: I basically took de_cbble and gave it a nighttime skybox. Nothing super special, but it plays well enough.

Compound: A smallish experimental map i made.

Zombiesurvival: The map is kind of ugly but it plays well.

OMGCity: A conversion of the RP map.

Night Of A Million Zombies: It’s a clusterfuck. You will die in 2 minutes. Play this map if you enjoy a challenge.

How to configure a map for ToxSin:

  1. Start a local game of ToxSin on the map.
  2. Do “sv_toxsin_dev_mode” in console.
  3. Place all the props and entities.
  4. When you’re happy with your setup, do “sv_toxsin_save_map_config” in console.
  5. Type “disconnect” in console.

I remembered I fucking loved ReDead when it was popular.

Hope you finish this. I started remaking ReDead a long time ago, but never got very far with it. I loved the game.

Even though this gamemode is like ReDead 2.0 (better code), it just doesn’t have the feel that ReDead had. I’m open to suggestions on how to make this more ReDead-ish.

Mind putting up a video of it?
I haven’t tried this yet but something that I feel could ruin the feel subtly is if the tempo gets too fast.
I remember the zombies as jogging rather than running, and the same went for your character.

Thing is, i have no control over NPC movement speed. The NPC’s move at the same rate. Not sure how fast players move in comparison to ReDead but i imagine it’s near the same speed.

From what i do remember this gamemode needs more maps so if you know of a decent nighttime city map please post it!
