Unreal Engine 4 is now free, with future updates also following suit.

I wasn’t exactly sure where to post this, but considering that this is under the developer’s section of the site, I thought this would be a relevant and appropriate place to post this. Please let me know if this needs to be elsewhere (with a link to the correct location, please).

I would recommend UE4 for anyone that does game art. With the amount of proliferation of the engine and their spearheading the realtime PBR (physically based rendering) texture workflow that’s in some form or another used in every newer engine, being able to say that you can get your content into UE4 and optimize for it is a great thing to have on a resume.

Plus they have an asset store, so you could sell what you’ve made, all for free now. With the cost of entry being wiped out, as an artist, the only excuse you have is hard drive space and bandwidth.
