What is worst Wasting Textels Or padding Geometry

What do you think is worst

Intersecting 2 poligons to not make new vertex/poligons, thus saving geometry but wasting precius textels

Using a ton of geometry to optimize textel use

(Random fact: druring the writing of this post i keep confusing lightels whit textels)

PS: if you dont know it, textel is a texture pixel in the geometry
