What REALLY powers the air support (chopper, gunship, etc)?

I noticed that when I airnoded a map, and applied it later, the large airNPCs (give striders the hint, and they’ll take it) didn’t use the nodegraph. What’s going on?

OR, you could take my question literally, and answer what keeps the dropships and gunships in the air.

They only move in scripts along path_tracks and path_corners.
