She lives in a bloody desert my man, I'm sure she's plenty hot enough as it is
Original tale was also probably Chinese, and for some reason lumped with other arabian tales in 1001 Nights.
Honestly if they go full Bollywood with the filming it could be pretty fun film. That being said I am cringing at the idea of the magic carpet getting turned into a CGI elephant that looks ~ultra HD realistic~ but then does some dancing (I kind of hope they just skip that part entirely)
It feels weird to me because, aside from the not-Taj Mahal, I always thought it was much more Arabic than anything. The place is called Arabia in the film. It just feels like the Avatar film where the Chinese inspired Fire Nation suddenly became Indian for no reason.
New plot-twist, Iago is now the one who asks to become a genie. Sigh. Abu was the only thing about the last trailer (apart from the scenery design) I genuinely liked and now they have given him a stupid "EYYYYYY"-type face. Actually the original takes place in China, which for some reason is completely Islamic. Pretty hilarious example of early whitewashing (except done by non-white people, of course).
I thought it was a fairly common view that Antoine Galland actually made up Aladdin and lied about translating it.
I thought bens kingsley was going to be jafar or something lol.
Jafar is just... nothing
i do take plenty of issues with the fact these remakes exist, but the least you can say is that this is actually showing stuff we didn't get in the original aladdin. i don't remember anything about his escape from the guards in the original film, but what they showed there looks like a neatly put-together setpiece. the genie's magic looks pretty funny in live action. though will smith, even at 30ft tall and with a filter over his voice, can't do "imposing". he still comes off as "will smith"
Who would you cast instead?
Wow hey she's no Lucy Liu but I think that's uncalled for dude
um let me stop u right there I'll have you know its much hotter here and they are all pussies
You forgot the first song of the film?
what
in the original movie, the street rat song takes place during his escape from the guards
First song is Arabian Nights tho, not One Jump Ahead
I thought the first song of the movie was arabian nights but also: yes I totally forgot that one, lol I was thinking in terms of how it's not an actual 'escape' scene, there's nothing all that thrilling about Aladdin jumping over rooftops as a cartoon, whereas you add physical sets, and suddenly, the practical stunts are something to be impressed by. Ideally they wouldn't make this movie at all, but I'm glad that it might be *a bit* of a different experience rather than "pretty much the same, but worse"
Ok I get what they're going for with this movie now. Looking forward to seeing it
