Cold war FPS game? You've got my attention
A Cold War shooter is a nice touch. I myself had an idea for an Able Archer based FPS (so also 1983) and have tried my had at a bit of writing (lol as if it will ever get made, I'm not rich enough for that), but this doesn't seem to touch the ideas I was thinking. Still cool though.
I know this is a pre-release trailer and it's not really all that important, but wow those muzzle flashes look terrible.
My hopes of a game like world in conflict is back
I'm disappointed but not surprised this is going to be another (presumably) MP-only RO/RS type affair. I skipped ahead in the trailer and it sorta reminded me of the likes of Ghost Recon.
I'll wait until I see more actual gameplay before I say much.

TBH I'd love to see a fun single-player FPS set in the cold war. Basically, Wolfenstein with Commies instead of Nazis.
I dunno, I'm not holding out much hope this'll be any good. it's got a weird amateurish vibe to it, they could've at least waited until they had some proper land vehicles in at least before they released their first trailer. Also the logo and name are something I'd expect from a decade old C&C Generals mod. Just overall I feel like it's fell flat out the door, which is disappointing really because I want to like this.

Look up Rising Storm 2 their current game out, it's definitely not AAA, the jank is there, but that game is pretty dang solid for what it is and if this game is gonna be anything like that I can definitely see myself putting in a lot of hours.
It's the announcement trailer. The earliest thing they've shown of this game. I don't think it's right to judge based on just this. They're just announcing they're working on this. It's not representative of the final game at all.
The one thing I hope they do work on is giving players more incentives to teamwork and improving the gameplay infrastructure for making that possible by tweaking the squad systems, combat roles, commander features and stuff like that because one of the complaints I do have about this "series" of games is that it often feels a lot like being in an immersive war-movie kind of experience except everybody around you are like mindless chickens.
It'd be very interesting to see if the campaign also features a perspective of the Red Army as well as NATO, like in WiC.

Yeah trailer description mentions vehicles ‘83 is a Cold-War-Gone-Hot, combined arms, first-person military shooter for high player counts (80+) currently in development at Antimatter Games. The game pits two large platoons of players against each other in massive maps, fighting over a number of objectives that have a tangible impact on the battle as a whole when held by the victorious faction. Players will have access to a selection of real-world infantry weapons and equipment, as well as a selection of powerful land and air vehicles which can decisively turn the tide of a battle. Also developed by Rising Storm team, and 80+ players sounds like it'll be pretty fun and chaotic. Rising Storm/Red Orchestra have been one of the funnest multiplayer games I've played and the cold war setting has tons of potential to be interesting and dynamic.
I was concerned this was a sequel to Fallout 76 when I read the title. I am relieved.
woops. I watched and they seem to only show small arms. But a shame, would love a world in conflict but in FPS for singleplayer.
Yea all those particle effects are from the asset store, which seems oddly cheap for Antimatter. It does seem odd, couldn't they just reuse what they have in Rising Storm 2?
I don't know how complicated it is, but Rising Storm 2/Red Orchestra 2 was made in a modified version of UE3 (the same Killing Floor 2 uses as well). This one is using UE4 and I'm guessing particle effects are a bit more complicated in making them work and look good for the new engine. Might be possible they could be placeholders until they polish everything up towards the full launch.
That does make sense, and yeh I would imagine they're placeholders, it would be kinda weird otherwise.
For anyone worried about the particle effect, I'll give a bit of an ancedote from the early testing days of Rising Storm 1... The Banzai Charge icon all the way up to the first batch of closed beta testers was an MS Paint stick figure of a Japanese officer who'd go into a multi-colored rave during the banzai charge. Seriously, I'm not joking at all about this.
Banzai charges were such a cool concept, I don't think I ever played a match where more than 3 ppl did a banzai charge together tho.

It seems the current standard teams are the British and the Russians? Interesting that it’s not the U.S. to begin with. Would be cool to see some other countries’ armies that had sectors assigned to them to defend West-Germany (or attack it) in the game, like well, the West and East Germans, the Dutch, the Canadians etc etc
