Jesus, this just makes me feel fucking depressed.
Yeah nah. Pretty sure laughing at Chris getting arrested because he vandalised a gamestop, or other crazy shit he does =/= being as bad as kiwifarms and the people actively ruining his life. Painting everyone with the same brush for having a normal reaction to someone doing extraordinary shit is just silly
What point does Bluespike come up in the GenoSamuel doc? I got to like, 5 or 6 maybe, and I just couldn't take anymore depressing shit.
Eleven or twelve I think, he got burned out pretty soon after that
If you don't know, about two years ago, Chris encountered some trolls that... broke Chris. Like worse than ever. And since there really isn't much of a community actually defending Chris anymore, they got away with shit like convincing Chris that CWCville is 100% real, and being invaded, including his friends and family, and fictional characters, are being hunted down in widespread genocide. They stole nearly $10 000 from Chris, and threatened to falsely tip the FBI off on the more... questionable activities that Chris has done over the years to """Out""" Chris as a pedophile. Chris' grasp on reality is basically nonexistent now
If there's one good thing to come out of the entire Chris Chan saga, it's that it serves as a warning on just how broken beyond repair a person can become, and in ways that many of us couldn't comprehend until now.
Jesus Christ, that's messed up. Last I heard, he was just dabbling in the LGBT community.
Aw man what the fuck, can it get any worse?
And also of just how useless the health and social system in the US is.
These kinds of posts makes me think America as a whole just won't ever comprehend that the dude is mentally impaired from birth. He doesn't really have a lot of active agency in his own existence. Yet people keep talking as if he can just opt out of being retarded any moment. Like. Why do so many people from overseas view mental retardation like 1950's conservatives used to view homosexuality? It's pretty fucking dumb tbh.
If I remember correctly his parents share much of the blame on how he turned out like this. They knew he wasn't mentally well, but they refused to do anything to really help him. The more you look at the situation the more you realize that the poor guy has never had a chance at living a good life.
I didn't imply that Chris wasn't born with any of his issues. However, I hold the belief that if Bob and Barbra weren't shit parents and tried to get Chris the help that he needed, maybe, just maybe, he would have a future.
CWC is one of the single most documented individuals in the modern era, it's actually incredible the amount of obsession people have over one weird person on the internet
Yo if it's any consolation - a lot of the old trolling cabal decided to break up when his dad died. I see Bluespike was mentioned in this thread - he actually has a lot of shame for his actions about ten years ago now. Honestly if anything, Christine is proof about how terrible our mental health system is in the US. She's one of the people who slip through the cracks - not normal enough to be normal (I mean look at her in the video ffs, treating ghosts as if they are whimsical fun things like casper instead of scary shit or fun but ultimately superstitious nonsense) but not abnormal enough to warrant attention (as I mentioned, she does see a therapist who's only concern is that she's not going to do anything that directly harms herself or people around her) It's often speculated that Christine could have been a bit more normal if her father, Bob Chandler, didn't dismiss help from her school as a bunch of people who wanted to lock her up in a padded cell.
The US Mental Health system has failed Chris constantly. one of the most frustrating incidents was after Chris was kicked out of college for about a year, there was mandatory psychological evaluations required for re enrollment, which Chris went through, and the transcripts are publicly available. The conclusion was baffling; it made no sense. They established that Chris, even then, was extremely delusional and couldn’t handle most social circumstances, but then concluded that since Chris wasn’t physically hurting people, he was perfectly fine with returning. It’s a constant “not my problem “ game of hot potato from his parents, to getting dumped onto the school system, and then a bunch of shitty therapists
Hey, if anything maybe this will probably end up in psychology books and psychologists will actually study this shit and maybe improve mental health systems. If anything this obsession might end up being a boon of mental health information.
I was under the impression that Chris had ALWAYS sorta believed the whole alternate Universe thing? I mean, this sure ain't the first I'm hearing of it. Maybe whoever he spoke to reinforced this by feeding into his delusions and added details, but the latest "canon" issues of his comic were some weird reclamation of his characters from the guy who did Asperchu. Admittedly I'm mostly getting this from the DStecks reviews...
I might rewatch the Geno documentaries soon, they're honestly really well-made and compelling (and I feel like he's gearing up to continue it soon). There are so many factors, so many moments in Chris' life, where you have to wonder if this whole thing could have been prevented if even one thing went differently. It's like a Hollywood screenplay, the way things are set up and paid off later, like the ripple effect left by him winning that Sonic Sweepstakes at such a young age. There are so many specific moments where you think "if this didn't happen this way, the entire Chris-Chan story would have ceased to be right then and there". If he didn't win those sweepstakes, if Bob knew how to deal with a child with special needs, if his parents had permanently taken away his internet after the first trolling incident, if he was put in special ed classes early on, if someone who worked for the state DID see the condition of the house in that one video and take Chris away, if they just never gave him a webcam in the first place... It's like a perfect storm, and as weird as it is to wax philosophic about some random tortured soul on the internet, seeing someone's life story documented in such an in-depth kind of way has made me look back on my own life experiences with that same kind of lens. I think part of the reason Chris is still on everyone's collective radar (aside from him making a public spectacle of himself every so often, like when he was escorted out of last year's TooManyGames) is because there's no telling how this story will end. It's easy to look at the story of Chris-Chan, with all the wacky/tragic "sagas" and forget that, holy shit, this is a real live human being; for real, actually what is going to happen after his mother dies and he's forced to exist on his own? I recall hearing rumors about some rando who was offering to let Chris live with him, not for the purpose of keeping the story going, but rather to actually attempt to rehabilitate Chris and shield him from any further damage. With the way things have turned out so far, I don't know if anything could shock me at this point.
People have already studied this and are able to help him. He's not some new unknown. He just lives in a shithole system. That's literally all there is to it. It's already very possible and very doable to help him and the knowledge is already there...
