Popeye syndrome doesn't mean the game shouldn't be enjoyed. If you want to play Final Fantasy VII, play it. The remake is probably going to do enough differently that despite following the same core storyline there'll be plenty of reasons to still cherish the original rather than replace it.
I've played a lotta old games, and I simply can't enjoy 7 because it really hasn't aged that well graphically no matter how many times I try. I understand playing the originals when a remake happens and I've even argued for it like on the YK2 trailer thread, but I'll just have to simply wait and go with the remake for 7 this time around.
If they insist on cramming a bunch complication compilation stuff into the game I am going to stay with the popeye arms, thanks.
The PC version does have graphical mods at the very least which help the game a lot
i can put up with 7's graphics, it's the gameplay that sucks shit through a straw. i was SUPER interested in the story, but the retro-ass turn-based gameplay just sucked too much ass for me, so i'm looking forward to when this remake never comes out
Weird way to say cross-dressed Cloud
Unfortunately, they're still planning on episodes: The Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Still Be Released In Multiple ..
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that likes the turn based battles.
I’m excited to play this because I could never get into FF7 battle system but I wanted to go through the story.
I love turn based FF combat, and I wish more modern games were designed around it. I'm out of the loop with the genre at the moment so if anyone knows any must-plays please drop me a line.
Feel bad for you guys who couldn't get past the turn based system or aged graphics, you have missed out on the materia system and how deep it is. Really hope the materia system is just as in depth and customiziable in this remake
The only thing that makes me not play FF games, is completion. Ever since I missed a few things and left a few blank spots in Vivi's abilities (namely the -aga spells), I've never been able to go through any game without a guide. If I play through them, they need to be 100%'d
I think you can say that for literally every 3d game prior to the GC/PS2 era.
Really makes me wonder how they will manage this. Will they stick closely to what was there in FF7, with the tone being all over the place, or will they stick to it being somewhat serious. This has been catching me off guard since my perception of FF7 was serious grim dark and Cloud being all emo and shit. What I got was a flawed individual who needs to smile more but he's actually pretty alright. If anything, I really want there to be a first person camera just to look around Midgard. I'm still kinda puplexed with FF7 but I have been enjoying it, as a first time player. 4K rendered PlayStation 4 Pro Tifa Cloudette, are they going to do it? Surely they would.
I wonder how they're going to handle all the body horror stuff that's so prevalent in the original game. Some of it is pretty fucked up in terms of design, and I don't feel like Square wants to risk this getting an M rating and potentially losing sales.
PS1 games have a certain charm to me. Just look at Brave Fencer Musashi or Mega Man Legends. If anything, a lot of the early PS2/GC games looked uglier because they were that uncanny point between PS1's relatively-simple graphics and trying to up the detail without refinement.
I'm always gonna recommend Lost Odyssey. It's the closest to older Final Fantasy games I've played, developed by Mistwalker, a company founded by the creator of Final Fantasy with Nobuo Uematsu returning to compose the music. It's far from new though, came out in 2007 and doesn't look like they're going to develop any more turn based RPGs anytime soon
Thankfully it and Blue Dragon are both backwards compatible on Xbox One.
Thanks, I'll check it out. Come to think of it there are quite a few classic FFs I never played so I might as well tuck in to them too.
honestly those two things aren't the worst with old jrpg games in general (not sure if accurate with 7 though been a long time since i played) but moreso things like unskippable skills with absurd animations. Or just some QoL things that we've come to be accustomed to in modern games make
Of all final fantasies I played through, my favorite example of an excessively long attack animation goes to sephiroth's super nova, where you watch a cutscene of him destroying the planets in our solar system, complete with labels for which planet he's blasting through, and if you're lucky he does it multiple times
the best part is that it's a glorified Demi; it cannot kill you because it's only percentage damage. meanwhile the Japanese version had a much shorter animation, but did flat damage high enough to actually wipe your party if you weren't prepared
I want Cloudette to be just a dumb wig and out of place makeup. The girls aren't convinced but the mob goons are. I want this to be the only out of tone thing in the remake and I'll eat it up.
I'm surprised at how many of the monsters were in the trailer. FF7 has a lot of weird monsters and that's not counting the really weird ones so I'm hoping they all make it in. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1844/94a8d515-5454-4576-8e35-67d69d8b57b0/image.png
Just watch, the second episode is gonna be released on the PS6 by the time it's finally done.
Personally I'm looking forward to the reveal of the enemy that is just a house https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/a/a2/Hellhouse-calm.png/revision/latest?cb=20100515023651
I'm so fucking glad Cloud isn't nearly as edgy as they made him later. That was the one of two things I was worried about and now that's alleviated. The other thing I am worried about is the episodic structure... I hope it isn't as bad as we make it seem. If the first episode is just Midgar, but they expanded it and added more story elements to be a 20ish hour game, that's fine.
Woah had no idea there was something that went on for longer than FF9's Ark Summon, Doomsday, and Grand Cross.
Looks great! I can't wait to see HD version of the Weapons. I'm curious how exactly they;re doing it episodic. Would the first episode be until the end of Disc 1 or leaving Midgar?
Despite the command menu, the combat system really reminds me of a mix of Crisis Core and Type-0 rather than KH3 or the like. At least from the little we've seen so far.
