Kojima is literally just ripping it from Escape From New York. That one line at the start is lifted straight from the movie and Norman Reedus is acting a lot more like Snake Plissken than Solid Snake/Big Boss did.
When did centrist start being thrown around like an insult? Centrist doesn't mean that you have no opinions are take a middle ground on everything.
A Hideo Kojima game with political overtones?

Centrism in the US is basically a joke because most of the people who say they're centrists try to compromise on things where compromise is a terrible fucking idea like climate change, economic policy, and a variety of other social bills. In other parts of the world it's largely fine.
On-topic: This is not as confusing as people are making out to be, tbh. You can clearly parse a lot of character relations from it, what the babies are and their purpose, and how time manipulation will play into it. In addition you get some flashback of Mads pre-apocalypse assumedly interacting with a Bridge Baby along with his EXPLICIT stating of having a link to the other side, hence his skeleton squad.
The vague quick cuts are the only part that leaves detail out and that is almost 100% intentional and for glamor shots
Honestly the walls and connections thing is Kojima being japanese as fuck again. It's hilarious to have all these english actors handling such stilted dialogue and weird acronyms or phrases, but it feels overwhelmingly blatant that the japanese social influence seeps in once a character goes on a rant about how everyone needs to open up to those around them again.
I just want to appreciate the first hint of the release date that was just sometime after announcement was 'the year AKIRA was set' and even with the delay it still turned out to be true
Hot take: almost every piece of art ever is political, if it isnt its usually vapid crap.
Even though Sony/Playstation has been making some bizarre decisions as of late, I am so glad they've poured so much money into fostering genuine art this generation.
It seems to me that they basically offered an endless stream of money for big devs to just go crazy with, and all these critically acclaimed exclusives show that.
Interesting that every character shown is crying with the exception of Mads, Die-Hardman, and Deadman. I am legitimately interested and probably going to buy a ps4 just to play this.

This game is giving me so much MGS5 ngl, especialy the gameplay between missions.
Open world forcused on immersion and stealth, where you mostly go from outpost to outpost, controllable vehicules, focus on maximising the use of ressources/limited inventory system, possibly story missions + side missions. Skulls = the mads mikkelsen squad. Different factions, a base of operations etc
Meryl, The Boss, Olga, Eva, Sniper Wolf, Amanda.
I mean his games have no shortage of female characters who have actual roles. One particularly lame duck and suddenly thats all he's ever done i guess.
Fragile's probably not going to be her actual name anyways. It's the company logo on her uniform, similar to how Sam is called Bridges because he works for Bridges.
lol imagine getting mad at the guy who created the strongest most compelling female character to ever exist in a video game
im like??? So mad??? Like ohmigod???
we're going to have a turf war between those who want to isolate (walls) agaisnt those who want to cooperate (bridges).
From what one of my Kojima-obsessed friends has speculated on twitter, the game is going to be a metaphor for how the internet has divided us when it was meant to bring us together. That "Covering the world in cable didn't bring an end to war and suffering" line is what brought him to that conclusion. When the internet was first unleashed onto the world we all thought it would unite us all because we could finally talk to one another, but instead... Hell, just look at some of the shit in this very thread. One guy bitches about politics and everyone's quick to label him as a result. Look in the politics section of this board. Motherfuckers almost never come to any sort of agreement on anything. Look on social media. Anyone who dares express an opinion is dogpiled by people who don't agree with that opinion and labeled, doxxed, or worse. The very thing that was believed to be able to close up our divisions just made them wider, made people more hostile to each other and more volatile in general. Whether he's right remains to be seen, but the "Kojima was right" MGS2 meme spawned from similar cirumstances.
You're delusional, that's not how it is on FP. Maybe you should fuck off with your stupid theories and dumb criticism. /s
Did someone notice that the cuts between the first shots when Sam is talking to the president are eyelids closing and opening? interesting
Seriously you could be onto something.

that was a pathetic attempt at humor, but i commend your effort.
Thanks, I gu-- I mean fuck you buddy! Reported to the admins for flaming.
Seriously though, Kojima would be the one to do this. This guy may be on to something. If he pulls it off, Death Stranding will become an instant cult classic, and we haven't had those in a while in video games.
Yeah I got that just as well as soon as I heard that line. I'm not sure what it means to be connected with someone in the game, but from what we know in reality, having connections can be very beneficial in accomplishing goals.
I doubt the game will just be a big giant simple metaphor, but if it is, I think kojima would not only point out the flaws, but provide attempts at solutions to the problem in forms of these different characters and/or factions. Good and bad solutions of course.
Nice to see see they included Hot Coldmans brother, Die Hardman.
If you combined Deadman, Die-Hardman and Heartman, what sort of powerup do you get
let me get this straight
you expected hideo kojima to make something apolitical.
hideo 'governments exploit their soldiers and then leave them for dead' kojima
hideo 'governments will censor information to cultivate more people into their propaganda pipeline' kojima
hideo 'WAR IS BAD' kojima
Nicholas Winding Refn starring as a character HAHAHAHAHAHA WHY
its even weirder than Del Toro as a character
I mean, we have. but we've reached a point in wich video games are so vast and so ambitious that there is a cult classic for anyone and everyone.
Gonna be honest, you actually had me there for a bit.
Once again, being political isnt the issue, its being tone deaf.
I have no problem with commentaries on our society but I would be disappointed if this game goes for the low hanging fruit.
The initial trailers were mysterious and very cool, but I'm mildly, and only mildly, concerned that the plot has been retconned to be more relevant to the current zeitgeist.
