Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Official Gameplay Demo - EA PLAY 2019

i know star wars has never been a very gore-y series but the lack of dismemberment makes the lightsaber feel flaccid, might as well just be a blunt weapon
also at 9:18 the animation of the spider biting the mc's neck looks like it should rip his head off but instead he just gets lightly tossed to the side
It doesn't seem to be a bunch of pre-rendered bullshit, at least.
Subtitles say 'Caught you'
Honestly makes me wish the IP would be allowed to do a bit more of a mature angle like how Shadow of Morder was very gory for a LOTR title.
Disney execs probably shit their pants whenever anyone proposes and M-rated Star Wars game.
Maybe with next gen consoles' more powerful CPUs we'll see a return to that focus on physics... hopefully.
That's fair. Was just wondering if there was an actual reason or if it was just bad design.
Hoping this is a Doom 2016 situation where the demo gameplay is just doing a poor job of really representing the game. Looks very... simple.
Compared to the last two JK games, it looks way different from my perspective. There are no (optional) ranged weapons or explosives, personal shields and inventory items seem to be completely absent (though I guess you could consider that droid you carry as some form of a substitute for the latter). I don't see the three saber styles, and saber combat doesn't seem to allow you to swing depending on your movement. Also the linear map layout shown gives me Force Unleashed vibes.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not implying the difference is inherently bad, but my personal first impression of it so far is that despite the eye-candy, it could maybe use more meat on those bones.
Am I the only one who thinks this is fine? Like it's E3 and not From Software so I doubt anyone wants to see the demo guy struggle during the gameplay. I like that the purge trooper can put his staff down to keep him from being pulled, but also let go so he can counter you on the way. It's not "piss babby" easy, but they want you to give you some examples that not all troopers will cower before your lightsaber. The guy is supposed to be a Padawan too so I'm not expecting Obi Wan or Galen Mark levels of lightsaber fuckery. His grapples look cool too.
The force unleashed had saber marks left behind on any surface, which led to enemies having some nasty burnt slash marks and I think both games had limb dismemberment. I think this game has the tech for that, but given the time-frame I don't think Respawn can do it without some screwy physics. If lightsabers were always able to dismember people in one hit I think people would have hated how easy it would be.
I'm only just now realizing that the limited quick heals are basically estus flasks and that glowing point of force they tried to ignore was probably for leveling your abilities or resting or something.
What the hell's the point of Skill Points in a linear cinematic action-adventure game besides pretending like player choice matters? Maybe i'm too cynical about this.
Game director: Let's make a Dark Souls clone! Has anyone here played Dark Souls?
Team: No, not really.
Game director: Oh well...
It's like a mix of the Force Unleashed and Dark Souls, but shittier.
Was rather underwhelmed at the footage to be honest.
Not sure what I was expecting either.
I was hoping more for a Jedi Outcast/Academy combat system than a Dark Souls one.
I don't mind more Dark Souls clones (I love Dark Souls) but storm troopers are going to be fodder in a Dark Souls clone then maybe, I don't know, show off more than 2 other types of enemies?
I don't see a Dark Souls clone I see an extremely linear Uncharted/Tomb Raider reskin with hints of Dark Souls.
Nobody seems to have mentioned that one the Purge Troopers has Sev's voice actor putting on the voice. Not that it IS that particular person, but the voice is spot on.
Honestly surprised so many people feel the same way I do. The demo was kinda...boring tbh?
Watched it with a friend and towards the end we kinda just skipped around.
Why couldn't we get a star wars game with lightsaber dismemberment tech like metal gear rising? That would be infinitely more interesting.
Also the enemy count seems kind of low too for the power of the player
This dudes a Jedi but force chokes and stabs people? Seems more like a Sith thing to do.
The most disappointing thing about this is that there doesn't seem to be any decapitations at all in this game when it's 17 year old counterpart has that and better laser projectiles.
It looks alright, most I felt was "that sure is a single player Star Wars game".
Kinda expected more out of Respawn after how good Titanfall 2's campaign was. Also kinda wish the protagonist was more interesting than just another human dude with a blue lightsaber(I know you can customize the lightsaber apparently but still)
This looks so bland
Did the director completely forget 1313 or was that cannibalized for The Mandalorian(C)(TM)

This looks really fun. I honestly want a linear single player starwars game again.
3rd person.
Melee combat is the focus.
Force abilities are present.
It's like Dark Souls.
Why does Dark Souls have to always be brought up when a game is like this? Like can you really just not help but compare everything to Dark Souls now? I mean at least you mentioned
The Force Unleashed, so you're not comparing it to JUST Dark Souls, but it's still fucking boring to hear/read this comparison, like a game can't stand apart from Dark Souls somehow despite the fact that it has nothing to do with that game, oh but it is in the same genre I guess so that's enough to compare it and everything else to Dark Souls.
Nothing personal against you, I'm just tired of seeing Dark Souls mentioned and be compared to.
I said Dark Souls because the leak mentioned it https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/1112904/Star-Wars-Jedi-Fallen-Order-leak-gameplay-reveal
Even in gameplay video you can clearly see what they copied from the Souls (but it's so poorly done)
What DID, they (poorly) copy?
Looks good to me. Really reminds me of the old school Starwars games like Knights of the old republic and Shadows of the empire.
Because it's literally identical to every other game out there right now, right down to the token wallrunning mechanics, climbing, and attack styles.
Hell, it even has the gimmicky balance sections which serve no practical purpose outside of a dedicated parkour game, and thematically make zero sense in a game where you're playing a sword wielding space wizard that can do quintuple backflips off a 5 story building and survive. Jedis as portrayed in combat should be able to literally tap dance across those gaps, but nope, gotta meet your mechanics checklist compliance quota.
